Discover Slovakia on Two Wheels
If you have ever crossed a race finish line and felt the urge to keep riding, Slovakia is exactly the
place where performance turns into discovery. Located in the heart of Europe, the country offers
ideal conditions for cyclists seeking diverse routes, high-quality surfaces, and strong
experiences beyond the main tourist flows.
“Slovakia offers incredible variety – in just one day, we rode through vineyards, historic towns,
and along rivers. It’s an ideal destination for long rides,” agreed participants of the Slovak
L’Étape.
Slovakia features more than 50 official cycling routes and hundreds of recreational cycling trails.
Three international EuroVelo routes also pass through the country. With over 14,000 kilometers
of marked cycling trails, and new routes continuously being developed, Slovakia truly rewards
exploration.
The longest cycling route in Slovakia is the Váh Cycling Route, which mostly follows the Váh
River embankment and runs through the Nitra, Trnava, Trenčín, and Žilina regions. Along the
country’s oldest cycling route, riders can admire landmarks such as Beckov Castle, Trenčín
Castle, or Strečno Castle.
In western Slovakia, cyclists should not miss the Štefánik Cycling Route, which symbolically
connects the memorial of Milan Rastislav Štefánik at Bradlo with Bratislava. Along the way,
cyclists can enjoy views of unique wine-growing regions surrounding Pezinok and Modra.
Near Nitra, the legendary EuroVelo 6 route is highly recommended. In this region, the route
stretches for 89 kilometers and offers scenic rides along the Danube River. In Komárno and Iža,
cyclists can discover Roman heritage, including the region’s only UNESCO World Heritage site.
Another attractive option is a linear cycling route connecting two regions of the Banská Bystrica
Region – Gemer and Horehronie. This easy ride surprises visitors with breathtaking views
across Muránska Planina National Park.
In the Liptov region, cyclists can follow the traces of villages submerged by the Liptovská Mara
reservoir. This route is unique due to its location, profile, theme, and strong visual and
educational value.
Eastern Slovakia also offers excellent cycling opportunities. The Hnilec Cycling Route is
approximately 70 kilometers long and connects the village of Dedinky in Slovak Paradise
National Park with the Ružín water reservoir.
A perfect combination of easy cycling and wine tasting can be found on the circular Tokaj
Cycling Route. Covering just under 30 kilometers, it leads through vineyards, past a
Renaissance manor house, and up to a 12-meter-high observation tower shaped like a wine
barrel.
This diversity is what Slovakia consistently presents as a cycling destination suitable for both
performance-oriented and recreational riders. A place worth returning to—even after major
races. Discover more tips on the SLOVAKIA TRAVEL website and across its social media
